In August, Nest Labs Inc. announced an overhaul of existing products and introduced the latest addition to their product portfolio: Nest Cam.
The Nest app has also been redesigned, with the 5.0 version offering easier access and control. Nest has also announced a partnership with American Family Insurance and Liberty Mutual Insurance, offering improved safety and savings for homeowners.
Nest Cam, the company’s latest product, allows users to remotely monitor their homes, belongings, and more. Nest Cam offers high-definition 1080p video quality, a flexible stand, night vision, and motion alerts. In July, Nest Cam will be available to European customers.
The second-generation Nest Protect smoke and monoxide alarm offers users enhanced protection. Its Split-Spectrum Sensor utilizes two light wavelengths to search for smoke from various types of fires. The alarms are now able to be silenced from the user’s phone.
The Nest Learning Thermostat gained new features, including user notifications in the event of temperature drops to help homeowners avoid frozen pipes and expanded integrations with the Nest family of products. The redesigned Nest app 5.0 makes it easier for users to access their Nest products and control them; for the first time, all three Nest products across various platforms have been brought together.
Nest’s CEO, Tony Fadell, says the company has always aimed to go beyond the thermostat. “Our vision was to create a thoughtful home — a home that takes care of itself and the people in it,” says Fadell.
Through the partnership with American Family Insurance and Liberty Mutual Insurance, homeowners can save on their insurance premiums. Customers who wish to participate in the Nest Safety Rewards program may receive a discount on their annual premiums. Homeowners also benefit by sharing basic information with their insurance providers to verify that the Nest Protects installed in their homes are functioning properly.
