How Often do I Need to Clean My Humidifier?
The frequency in which you need to clean your humidifier heavily depends on how often you use your humidifier. Cleaning your humidifier will prevent the growth of mold, mildew, fungi, bacteria, and all other fun things that thrive in stagnant water.
- It is very important that you take the time to thoroughly clean your humidifier with vinegar at least once a week to get rid of the bacteria breeding ground that is created within your humidifier water reservoir. Delaying the cleaning process longer than a week can have adverse health affects – especially for those with allergies or asthma.
In addition to weekly cleanings, it is very critical that you make sure to empty the left over water after each use and wipe dry with a towel. (for daily use, empty and dry every day) This will decrease the amount of harmful organisms in your reservoir keeping the humidified air produced as clean as possible.
- If you only use the humidifier when you are sick it is highly suggested that you clean the humidifier after each use. You want to keep as much bacteria, viruses and organisms away from the air you breath in, especially when your immune system is already under the weather.
