Aprilaire 500 Humidifier Product Overview

The Aprilaire 500 humidifier is designed for use in small to mid-size homes, humidifying spaces up to 3,000 sq. ft. and delivering 12 gallons of water each day. Your Aprilaire humidifier will automatically sense when your home needs more humidity. The humidistat, located on the return duct, will read the air coming in from your home. If the moisture level of this air is below the specified level set on your humidistat, it will tell the humidifier to turn on to give your home more humidity until it reaches its predetermined set point.
Now, how does the humidifier work?

  • When the humidistat tells your humidifier it needs more humidity, and your furnace blower is operating, water flows from the water feed tube into the water distribution tray and then trickles down over the water panel.
  • Dry hot air then moves over this water panel from the furnace creating a natural evaporation process. The water turns to vapor and then the systems blower moves the humidified air through the ductwork and into your home.
  • The Aprilaire 500 is a bypass humidifier which means that it uses a 6” bypass duct to connect the return duct to the supply duct (or vice versa depending on which side you install your humidifier) to bypass the furnace and insert the humidified air within the ducts to then get pushed through the central heating system.

The Humidifier measures 15 5/8” wide by 13” tall by 10 ¼” deep. The plenum or duct opening requires a space of 9 ½” wide by 9 ½” high. At HVAC.com, the Aprilaire 500 comes as a complete system! This includes 1 Aprilaire 500 humidifier, 1 #10 water panel, a humidistat (a digital automatic humidistat with the 500 automatic, or a manual humidistat if you purchase the 500M), 1 self-piercing saddle valve, and 1 24 vac transformer.

The only Items not included are the copper tubing, drain tubing, and the humidistat wire. The Aprilaire 500 includes a 5 year warranty on parts and needs to be installed by a licensed HVAC Contractor!
