Frigidaire

Frigidaire has been a leader in the home appliance market since 1916. Its furnaces and other heating and cooling products are manufactured by Nortek Global HVAC, known for its quality and efficiency since 1919. Frigidaire gas furnaces undergo a rigorous quality control process that involves 234 separate checks. There are numerous models on the market, all designed to meet different needs. Yet the sheer number of options can make it tough to choose. Here is a deeper look at Frigidaire’s furnaces to help you make your decision.

Types of Frigidaire furnaces

There are two main types of Frigidaire furnaces. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks for different homes:

A traditional furnace is housed alongside the indoor parts of your air conditioner in an interior cabinet. It forces warm air throughout your home through a series of ducts. Traditional furnaces share ducts with your air conditioner, though they can also be installed in homes without air conditioners. While the ignition system is electric, the furnace uses natural gas for fuel.

If you need cooling as well as heating, but do not have much space indoors, consider a package unit, which combines all the components you need into one unit installed outside your home or on the roof.

Frigidaire furnace models

All furnaces are rated according to their AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) percentage, which measures how much of the energy used by the furnace is turned into heat for your home instead of escaping. Also pay attention to the unique set of features on each model you are considering. Here is a closer look at some of the most popular Frigidaire furnace models.

High efficiency

All the furnaces in Frigidaire’s High-Efficiency line have an AFUE of more than 90%. The FG7T(E,N)-VS features a two-stage gas valve and a variable-speed blower motor, allowing precise fine-tuning of indoor temperature. Its AFUE is 96%. The FG7TC-VS is extremely similar, except that its AFUE is 95.1%.

Mid-range models in this line include the FG7T(E,N)-FS and the FG7T(C,L), which are two-stage models with fixed-speed blower motors. Their AFUEs are 96% and 95.1% respectively. The least expensive models of the High-Efficiency line are the FG7S(D,M) and the FG7S(C,L). These single-stage, fixed-speed models have AFUEs of 95% and 92.1% respectively.

Standard efficiency

Frigidaire’s Standard Efficiency line includes furnaces with an AFUE of 80%. The FG7T(A,K)-VS has a two-stage gas valve and a variable-speed blower motor. The FG7T(A,K) has a two-stage gas valve and a fixed-speed blower motor, while the FG7S(A,K) is a single-stage, fixed-speed model.

Package units

Frigidaire offers four models of package units that pair a gas furnace with an air conditioner alongside one dual fuel model. Dual fuel models include an air conditioner, a gas furnace and a heat pump, switching back and forth as needed. Heat pumps work by moving heat around, offering significant savings on your electric bill if you live in a temperate climate.

The DF6SF-B is a dual fuel unit that combines an 81% AFUE gas furnace with a 15 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) air conditioner and a heat pump with an HSPF (heating season performance factor) of 8.0.

The R6GI is part of Frigidaire’s IQ Drive series. These smart systems reduce humidity and modulate operations according to moment by moment needs, further improving energy efficiency. This model pairs an 81% AFUE gas furnace with a 20 SEER air conditioner.

If you live in a colder climate, consider the 95% AFUE/14 SEER R8HE-A. With two-stage operation, this condensing unit provides extraordinary efficiency in cold weather.

Other options include the R6GF-B, with an AFUE of 81% and a SEER of 15, and the R8GE Single Phase, with an 81% AFUE and a SEER of 14. Both are less fancy than the models mentioned above, but they provide reliable and efficient heating and cooling at a lower price point.

Frigidaire furnace pricing

The typical price range for a gas furnace is $1,000 to $3,000. Installation costs are extra. The exact cost for your furnace depends on the size, type and features of the model you choose. Installation costs vary based on factors including your existing ductwork, your geographic area, the size of your home and how difficult the installation is. The best way to get an accurate price, including installation, is to schedule an in-home estimate from a local HVAC professional.

Frigidaire furnace warranty

All Frigidaire furnaces feature a limited lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger, a 10-year Comfort Quality Pledge that replaces the unit if the heat exchanger fails during that time, and a 10-year parts warranty. For commercial systems, the warranty periods drop to 10 years on the heat exchanger and one year on parts. Although these warranties do not cover labor, extended labor protection plans are available for an extra charge.
